M&M character 2 - Hwacha!

Thanks partly to the HeroLab demo but even more to greywulf and his expert advice... our second Mutants and Masterminds character, the incredibly-one-dimensional-yet-amusing-to-me Hwacha! is ready.

He throws explosive fiery infernos from his hands and... well... I guess that's basically it. But that's cool, right?

Hey, if you're gonna be a one-trick pony it might as well be a good trick. I don't know how he will play, really - my expectation is that he will be pretty fragile, but able to knock down boatloads of mooks if he can keep them at range. Hwacha! coming on the scene might look something like this (without the flying away at the end). Next up: ALICE

Love it! I'm a big fan of one-trick characters too. It's always more fun to work out cool ways for them to use their single-power than it is to have a character who can do it all. Give me Flash over Superman any day :D

Stat-wise the character looks spot on. Good work!

When he's got a few more points to spend I'd suggest picking up up Aura as an Alternate Power off his Blast so he can coat himself in a layer of flame. Oh, and Immunity:Fire should probably be in there somewhere too :D That would be for the future though when he's mastered his powers a little more.

Does he really need Fire Immunity for any game reason when he has Fire Absorption 20? Seems like a waste of points, and M&M is drawing my old GURPS Supers min-maxer persona to the fore...

I almost didn't give him the absorption, either - the concept is this fragile little guy (maybe he works in IT, thus explaining his white-hot rage - note the couple ranks in Computer) who happens to be able to throw these long-range area blasts of fiery destruction.

I think he'd do well as a new character on Heroes.

No you don't, but having Immunity:Fire as well as Absorption is handy if you DON'T want to boost your powers, but still don't want to be harmed by the attack. Have it as an Alternate Power of Absorption and it's only 1 point, and well worth it.

If you've crossed mean GMs like I have, this is Good Thinking. I had one character who had total energy Absorption (with Slow Fade) which boosted his Blast and Force Field. In the middle of a large firefight he had me make a Concentration check to be able to contain all the energy, or..... well, go boom.

I failed :D

As I said, it's certainly not essential, but worth thinking about down the line.

Incidentally, I wrote up the original Heroes characters a long while ago, as PL 2 characters of all things. here.

May I ask 'Hwacha' means Korea's old war machine?

I really wonder because I am Korean.

Welcome, 불타는도넛 (No, I can't read Korean, but I can copy & paste :) )

Yes, the name is from the old war machine.

I was inspired by this video of one being fired.

After seeing that, I looked it up on Wikipedia.
